Voices In My Head
Most Favorite Podcasts…(right now)
Do you love podcasts? Did you know it’s 2019 and they are ALL the rage? Well if you didn’t, now you do. Listening to a podcast has become my new listening to a CD! Okay, I just wrote CD out of fear of being judged for writing CAST RECORDING….so to honor my truth I’m going to correct that and say: my new listening to a cast recording, henny!
It’s the perfect activity while commuting to and from work or any activity, you can listen in a car, or with your headphones…yas 2019! I also love to listen while doing cardio. NOTHING get my heart pounding faster than a cold case… but I’m jumping ahead.
Not every podcast is made of the same juice. There are so many options to choose from. I listen to all sorts from murder to comedy to tv recaps. Heck, you could even listen to the NEWS. Imagine.
So. In the spirit of blogcasting (see what I did there?) I am going to list some of my most favorite podcasts at this current moment.
In no particular order
My Favorite Murder
YALLLLLL! This podcast changed the game for me. I am truly obsessed. I’ve even been to a live show and have purchased merchandise multiple times……..they even have a Fan Cult that I have proudly joined for a second year! I didn’t really know that I had an interest in true crime until I gave this podcast a listen. My sister always watched Discovery ID and that kind of stuff, but I never really enjoyed it.
I remember one time we were staying in a hotel with our parents and we had one of those suites where there was a door joining two rooms that locked in both bedrooms…you know?… and my sister was watching some NBC Movie of the Week where a mother was on the phone while her daughter was getting murdered in a parking lot and had to listen to it (this was not a true story) and I lost my shit and was screaming and banging on the door for my parents to save me.
Total tangent, but that’s also the style of MFM. The hosts Georgia and Karen constantly veer off-topic and into hilarious territory. At this point, it feels like they are my close friends. Anyway, I found this podcast while living in LA and stuck in traffic and it helped pass the time and was incredibly engrossing. I listen obsessively. Check it out!!!!
This pod was recommended by my friend Emily.
Dax is a great host and I find his candor with being sober totally refreshing and admirable. He and his associate, Monica, discuss almost any subject imaginable. They welcome the most amazing guests from celebrities to doctors to scientists to religious figureheads. It’s always informative and entertaining.
I highly recommend.
I absolutely have no idea who these hosts are. I guess they are comedians or something? I couldn’t tell you. But, I love this gay pod where the hosts, Tim and Peter, invite awesome LGBTQ+ guests to come over and recreate slumber parties from their childhood! It often delves into the mental state each guest found themselves in as adolescent queers and it’s incredibly powerful to hear successful people discussing their past selves. PLUS it’s a comedy podcast so it’s never heavy for very long. I love it!
What podcast list is complete without Marc Maron? The Daddy of podcasting.
He’s been in the game for ages and I love his honest and thorough interviews. He asks all the questions you want people to be asked!
If you’ve NEVER checked this one out, give it a try now! He even interviewed President Obama…while he was President!
Bros Watch PLL Too
Look. You’re reading MY blog, so don’t judge MEEEEE!
Pretty Little Liars was my ultimate JAM. It gave me everything. Including disappointment.. but that was part of the journey! I found this podcast during the original series and they’ve picked it back up now that the spin-off The Perfectionists is airing.
I love their recap because they are often 2 hours long and they discuss the smallest of details…which is delicious when it’s a topic as stuffed with easter eggs and hints as the PLL universe. BUT the BEST part is that they got crazy awesome interviews with all of these behind-the-scenes people like executive producers, story editors, script supervisors, set designers, directors, and even some of the actors! If you’re bingeing PLL or loved the show, check this out.
(PS: I once sent my headshot and resume to the casting director for Pretty Little Liars and included a cover letter which I signed, “ tr-Ay” Somehow, I never got called in for the show.)
Can I get an AMEN up in here?!
RuPaul’s Drag Race just isn’t complete without Race Chaser!
PLUS, they start at the VERY beginning, with the “forgotten” season… Season One!
Go Listen now! It’s tons of fun!
